Solid Aluminum Air Terminal Class 1

A Class 1 Solid Aluminum Air Terminal is a lightning rod designed for structures less than 75 feet (23 meters) in height. According to safety standards like NFPA 780, these terminals serve as the primary strike termination points to safely capture lightning and conduct it to the ground.

• Minimum Diameter: Must be at least 1/2 inch (12.7 mm). 
• Material: Made from solid aluminum rod, which is roughly 70% lighter and 30–50% less expensive than copper.
• Tip Styles:
  • Blunt: Often preferred for safety during installation and maintenance.
  • Tapered/Pointed: The traditional "lightning rod" shape.
• Typical Lengths: Available in standard lengths ranging from 10 inches to 48 inches.

• Spacing: Terminals are typically spaced at intervals no more than 20 feet apart along roof perimeters and ridges.
• Projection: They must project at least 10 inches above the area they are protecting.
• Mounting: Usually features a threaded base (e.g., 1/2-13 threads) to attach to various mounting bases or adapters.
• Environment: Best suited for dry, inland environments; aluminum can corrode quickly in coastal areas with salt spray.
